IEC 61643-12: Low Voltage Surge Protective Device - Part 12: Surge Protective Device Connected to Low-voltage System - Selection and Application Principles (Edition 3.0 2020-05) has encouraged the implementation of SPD specific disconnector, SSD as the external disconnector of SPD to act as the SPD backup protection device.

SPD often facing issue of causing fire hazard within the panel due to aging, deterioration and overcurrent loaded under abnormal circumstances. In order to overcome such issues and increase the safety assurance of the power distribution panel with SPD, the external disconnector of the SPD plays a crucial part.

There are four important conditions which an external disconnector of the SPD must achieve:

  1.     Sufficient surge with stand capacity.

   2.     Low additional voltage drops

   3.     Low tripping current

   4.     Time-current characteristic coordinated with the up-steam installed overcurrent protective device to avoid  mis-tripping.

SPD SPECIFIC DISCONNECTOR T08 SERIES

SPD Specific disconnector, SSD was first research and develop (R&D) by XIAMEN TAIHANG CO. LTD located at Xiamen, China. It was then being patented and implemented in various application related to lightning surge protection in China. SSD poses a crucial part on acting as the back up protection device for SPD to protect SPD from creating fire hazard.

PROMOV SPD Specific disconnector, SSD is designed with high surge withstand capability and low tripping current. The design of the device itself is vary compare to normal circuit breaker. Hence, the additional voltage drop is lower which minimize the let through voltage passing through SSD & SPD.
